10 Proven Ways to Keep Your Hair Dye lasting longer

How do I keep my hair color as fresh as I dyed it first? A question we hear a lot as salon owners. The answer is not strictly what to do, its also things you should avoid.

You can use as superior brand and still find your hair color fading, that’s because there are mistakes you’re probably doing thorough your daily routine and we are here to fix that! So lets make your hair dye last longer!

Here are the 10 proven tips to keep your hair color fresh:

1- Don't Rush to Wash Your Hair

You're probably asking how long should I wait before washing my hair after dying it? The answer is not before 48 to 72 hours from when you dyed it. That is because during the dying process the chemicals open up the hairs cuticle layers to enable the color to enter the strands outer layer.

2- Spread Out Hair Wash Days Post Hair Color Care

Frequently showering will make your hair color fade, if you feel like your hair got oily its recommended to use a dry shampoo in between showers. The best shower schedule is 2 to 3 times a week max.

3-Use Sulfate Free Shampoo - HI Lift True Hydrate Nourish Shampoo

Color treated hair care requires careful hair maintenance, even when it comes to the shampoo choice. Choose a color-safe, sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse gently without dulling your shade.

Sulfate has many properties that strip color from your dyes hair including:

  • Sulfate in shampoo deeply cleanses the hair by removing oil buildup along other products such as hair dye molecules.
  •  Sulfate also reopens the hair cuticle which allows the dye molecules get released.
  • Sulfate is known for its water solubility which enables water to wash out the color.

4- Rinse Your Hair with Cold or Lukewarm Water

When it's time to shower, go for cold or lukewarm water instead of hot. Hot water opens the hair cuticle, which can cause your color to fade more quickly by allowing the color to escape. If you prefer, you can also rinse your hair with cold water over the sink to avoid getting cold water on your whole body.

5- Deep Condition Weekly with a Color Safe Conditioner

Why deep condition and specifically with a color safe conditioner?
Color safe conditioners are formulated to protect, prolong your hair color, and keep the cuticles sealed.
They have the following properties:

  • PH balanced are formulated to keep dye molecules sealed and reduces color fade.
  • Free From harsh ingredients that can be harsh on the hair strand and dry it out.
  • Formulated with Nourishing ingredients to help keep the hair's shine and moisture.

6- Keep Your Hair Protected From the Sun

You might assume the sun only affects your skin, but its UV rays also damage your hair by weakening the cuticle and drying out the strands, making it harder for your hair to retain color.

7- Limit the Use of Styling Tools

High heat can open your cuticle and cause color to fade. Always use a heat protectant like the CPR Heat Defence Thermal Protection Spray before blow-drying, straightening, or curling

8- Avoid Deep Cleansing Shampoos

Deep cleansing shampoos or Clarifying shampoos can remove hair color because they're made to deeply cleanse and strip away buildup, including the color pigments from dyed hair.

Since hair dye sits in and on the hair cuticle, the strong cleansing agents in clarifying shampoos can wash out some of that color, especially if the dye is semi-permanent or freshly applied.

9- Gloss Between Salon Visits

A gloss treatment boosts shine, revives faded color, and seals the cuticle to lock in vibrancy. It’s a gentle, damage-free way to refresh dyed hair and keep it looking salon-fresh between appointments..

10- Use Modern Smart Sleeping Methods

Cotton pillowcases create friction that dulls color and causes breakage. Switch to silk or satin to keep your hair smooth and your color vibrant.

Want your hair color to last? It’s all about smart care. With the right tips, your shade stays bold and beautiful for weeks.
